Which new region of the former USA would you like to live in?  I'd choose Horseonistan, on the Atlantic seaboard.

The part about Alaska being leased was old Soviet propaganda, we bought it fair and square.

Obviously, he hasn't been to my South so I can't take him seriously. I look around and all I see are "boogies."

It doesn't even matter--we own it in practice, regardless of what they say. Possession is nine tenths of the law, the other tenth is intercontinental ballistic missiles.

"He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts - the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations; and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong. This shit has been kicked around forever and with good reason; history, recent and ancient has show that this sort of thing invariably happens.  The current morass of corruption and tomfoollery may indicate that a breakup would be a good thing; large countries don't necessarily benefit the populace in the same way that a small country does.

That's my general assumption: I'm just hoping that if the United States is due for collapse in the foreseeable future, it happens when I'm young enough to adapt rather than when I'm old and helpless. Marauding Texans would be such a bummer when you're 85.

That's a piss-poor point of view - how would you rather go out; in a hospital bed or trying to get your shaky old hands to steady enough to get a proper lead on some damn Texan?????

I foresee the US dividing into three nation-states:  New Hispania, White-istan, and Niggachusetts.

The U.S. is already dividing and sorting itself into very specific political and social areas......  People tend to move to places with like minded individuals and other people often times accept the the culture in which they live...  It's fairly easy to see politically as certain states are becoming more distinctly "red" and others more distinctly "blue"....  I actually think this is a good thing and I have nothing wrong with it as long as the individual states retain the power to properly serve these differing mind sets....  The only way this would work is to have an incredibly "weak" federal government and extremely "strong" state governments....  What works for rural America is far different than what works for urban America, what works for the East Coast doesn't work for the West Coast....  I don't want people in Florida making decisions for me on what they think is right and I highly doubt they want me making decisions on what I think is right for them...  If someone wants their laws to be based on the Bible that's fine, they can move to Missouri and have that....  Every person should be given the opportunity to live in the society they want with the laws they want and the more seperate we become the better....  All that does is give us options and the opportunity to live the life we want to live....

Have you been looking at the progression of the colors on the map?  The red vs. blue thing has been dissolving a bit over the last decade or so.  I'm not saying it's going purple or anything, just that the current red vs. blue thing is just that: the current thing.  We're no more separate than we were 100 years ago; less so, in fact, now that we communicate so much more than we used to.  There's a hell of a lot of distance between having local cultural differences and divvying up the country.

Come to think of it, have you ever left the country?

And Canada doesn't count as leaving the country.  They're USA Lite, with more manners, eh?

England hardly counts, it's kind of like an old, moldy version of the US that you find in the back of the fridge, only instead of baseball they have cricket, soccer for basketball and rugby instead of football.

Oh and the beer is better and food is worse.

At least one part of the secession will, I predict, call itself "Jehoshaphat" but I'm uncertain whether it will center on Utah or West Virginia.

George Alec Effinger's Marid Audran books names some pieces of the breakup: "Sovereign Deseret" "Nuevo Tejas".
