I think it's a matter of natural selection. A two-year old couldn't outmaneuver this elephant? Maybe he didn't deserve to grow up. I was pretty surprised to read that he'd been beaten. I figured she sat on him.

The part they must be leaving out is how the 2 yo was missing for a coupla weeks beforehand, and they later found her pasted to this behemoth's ass when she rolled over for the remote. Frankly, I'm surprised American prisons haven't been having more difficulty housing overweight inmates. My guess would be that, once they check into the correctional facility, they don't stay morbidly obese for long. The article implies she has a number of medical conditions that must be attended to on a daily basis. Think of the dramatic improvement to her health from just six months of a controlled caloric intake and some forced physical activity.
