This was inevitable if you follow the decline of the Evangelical movement as "fire and brimstone" went from a threat issued to the church goers to a threat against their perceived enemies.  From there Xianity, which had always had a tenuous connection at best to hold them together, was sloughed off as a better world awaiting them was no longer important (or even believed anymore) and they turned to QAnon which became a Movement, Cult, and Conspiracy Theory of Everything and the feeding ground for MAGA when Donnie Small Hands, aka, "the prophet" came along to lead them down the garden path.

I'm not a sociologist so the closest explanation/analogy that makes sense to me is when everyone got the internet on their smart phones, for many it became a fire hose of information to the point that neither church nor news can now be trusted because there are a million different opinions of everything and (therefore) nobody is correct.  From there, it's a short, slippery slope down to the form of madness we now see before us.  And since Donald has reverted to a six year old in an 80 year old's body, you can even see the confusion from the MAGA group.

The logical conclusion?  This doesn't end well for somebody, if we purge the poisonous Donald out of our lives and we continue the vigilance of point out to people that "we don't behave that way in a civilized society" it all breaks down and splinters the way cults have done for hundreds if not thousands of years.  If that ShitFuck wins, I'm going to start praying to "The Great Old Ones" to destroy this world ASAP!
Movie Announcer Voice, "In a world no longer worth living in...".

At my age, my only real concern is to close my IRA before Donald destroys the economy again.  There's really not much these people can do to me.  Sadly, for my Son, and Daughter-In-Law, and Granddaughter I'm not sure they can look forward to anything resembling a bright future.
