I had my share of email flame wars with some of Gawker's always revolving staff but they always listened.
Shit disturbing is fun, fun to watch and fun to read, but it's a tight rope, and a long, long way down when entropy pulls it apart.
There's no other addictive buzz quite like it.

IMO it was more good than bad, at least in recent years. I hope the catty little bastard sets up shop somewhere else on the Net real soon.

My only take on this is that when two entities both refuse to negotiate, it's likely to end badly for both. Most people have learned this by the end of high school, but some never do.
