Gray, actually for the roles that were written for women then she was pretty good. Good enough for 2 Oscars, the second one actually being the best one.
Yes, lots of makeup, but at least she didn't do the Joan Collins.

I don't think an Oscar is necessarily indicative of talent or ability - shall we produce a list of the hams who have won them over the years?
If she didn't do the whole "Joan Collins" maybe it was because she no longer had the figure for it. (I'm assuming you refer to Joan's habit of getting her gear of in a series of otherwise crap films?)
