New Zealand is one of those out-of-the-way parts of the world. Bungee jumping originated there. It seems they have a tradition of making their own entertainment.

Eons ago when I was working at McMurdo in Antarctica, the Kiwis had a base - Scott - about a mile away. Hands down, they threw the best parties.
