The Catholic Church has much greater things to worry about then more of the same in Italy.
The scandals have only just begun. It would be almost incredible if the rate of abuse was not the same in the Latin world as it was in Great Britain, Ireland, Europe and the US.
But the abuse scandal has yet to break full scale in the largest Catholic countries. For some reason these populations psyche have not been penetrated by the depth of the scandal. And the priests there have not yet been called to account.

Here's some more utter shit: Church apologist insists that if they boy is junior-high-school age, it's not pedophilia!

NAMBLA chicken hawks try to insist they are (1) not gay, and (2) not pedos. I could buy argument that they are not gay, but if they have no interest in adult men and only want boys, then, by definition, they are pedos.

What planet is Bill Donohue on? When I was 18, I had a 17 year old boyfriend who was 6 months younger than me. We were almost caught in the act one night in my car on a deserted beach by the police. Had the policeman arrived 10 minutes earlier, I could have gone to prison for up to 15 years for molesting a 6’4” bearded minor with a very hairy chest who passed himself off as being in his 20s when entering bars or buying alcohol. “Post Pubescent” wouldn’t have gotten me free of the charges; at that time the only possible defense against a statutory rape charge in Florida was to prove the child in question was already a total slut before you made their acquaintance.
Edit: For the record, this is the only underage partner I had relations with after my 18th birthday.

I don't understand--why not just say this is unacceptable and drive the childfuckers out of the organization? If this was the Kiwanis or Boy Scouts, that would be the answer, so why not the Church? Why self-immolate to defend the categorically indefensible?

Two problems, I suspect: Admitting they did nothing would be admitting, well, that they did nothing. The Church and the Pope, of course, are infallible.
Second, the church is grappling with a serious shortage of priests.

Sad;y it seems money is a prime motivator. They have spent so much energy on avoiding paying compensation. And should the church actually admit just how endemic it is the Latin countries might wake up and realize their exposure to this is far greater then what we have experienced. Then how will a priest earn his keep?

Then they have to worry that the faithful will all become fickle. I hear that Calvinism is back!!

I subscribe to the CSM and read that a couple of weeks ago. It certainly sparked some interesting discussion in our study group at temple.

Anybody searching for a form of spirituality that works for them needs to be careful about nasty cults lurking out there to victimize less astute seekers. This church appears to be one of the nastiest I've heard about in a while.

"Several news organizations, including the AP, reported last year that Fitzgerald was intent on buying an island where priests attracted to men and boys could be segregated, and even made a $5,000 down payment on a Caribbean island for that purpose."
We shall call it PedophIsle.

Apropos of nothing, my mother - the same woman who introduced me to Tom Lehrer when I was 10 and who pulled me out of bed to watch a late night showing of "The Graduate" on television a few years later - was a huge Buck Henry fan.

You just can't leave them alone.
The cause of the Catholic clergy's sex-abuse scandal is no mystery: insular groups of men often do bad things. So why not break up the all-male club?

I fucking hate the catholic church. I think they should arrest the pope and his lame ass entourage and throw him in Rikers for a few years with free lube and poppers for whoever wants to say hi.

It's more common than one might think. In Latin America, there are lots of little babies wearing red booties.
