I recommend his dad use this classic Alabama defense when the story breaks.
My son does not freebase cocaine. Now, he'll do some toot, X, and weed. It would be impolite not to partake in a little toot when you're out in the park at 1:00 AM with your friends. But, he does not freebase cocaine. Well, maybe he'll get his pipe out when he's getting searched by the police, but he never freebases at church! Well,......

CNN is in Atlanta, which is pretty close to Alabama.
I think they will be interested in this story.

The only real difference I’ve noticed between the South and the rest of the country is that corruption is more upfront than elsewhere. In the Florida county where I lived, it was common knowledge that troublemakers who upset the local gentry or law enforcement establishments would disappear. There were swamps full of alligators and sharks swimming offshore waiting for anybody who pissed off the sheriff. And yes, the children of the gentry had their drug charges disappear. Years after I left, I told an acquaintance where I had lived, and he told me the police beat the crap out of him and told him to leave town if he knew what was good for him. He still had nightmares about the place.

I had a cousin who was a sheriff's deputy in Louisiana. He was a NARC and worked very closely with federal agents most of the time in his duties. He and two fellow officers were hunting and fishing and stopped by a local bar. They met a known dealer and attempted a buy from him. Apparently the guy was having none of it and they left. The guy followed them into the parking lot and fired three shots from a hunting rifle hitting my cousin in the eye and grazing one of his friends.
The guy was allowed to plead down to manslaughter and basically walked from what I understand. This was because he was local muckety-mucks kid.
A cop killer. Walked.

It's people like you that piss me off. You're always badmouthing Louisiana. You failed to mention the most important part of WHY this guy got off. His crawfish etouffee is to die for.

The cop killer is probably fertilizing a cypress tree in a bayou unless he had the sense to leave town.

My uncle has had to be talked several times out of killing the guy so I believe he is still kicking. Like I said, I think his dad was a judge as well or some politician.
