I saw that on television tonight at a friend's place. I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling that way. After all that talk of change, and then running loose with various fantasies about FDR (I've always had a thing for powerful gimps), I sort of envisioned a rush of proposals and enormous upheavals with successes and failures, and more proposals and efforts. Millions would be mobilized to overhaul the broken system and it would be painful for everyone but we'd all have this sort of idealistic "we're all in this together" sense of mission and at the end of eight years we'd find ourselves living in a radically different, but better and stronger, society.

I realize now I must have been very high.

Government has inertia you know.  You can't expect shit to change overnight.  You have to work at it over large amounts of time, in incremental steps, because anything more drastic (and probably healthier for society) scares the knickers right off your grandpa.

No, you're right, and I know many of the things that are finally being discussed will entail endless stalling, as well. I'd like to see a little less concern about bipartisanship - especially with a party that was so resoundingly rejected - and a willingness to step on toes and piss people off.

Do you get the feeling that he didn't pre-read his joke list and was seeing it on the teleprompter for the first time during taping?

Ah, the old Audacity of Hope has become the Audacity of Dope.

For myself, I'm waiting to see what the "nationalized" health care proposal actually looks like, and how they deal with the inevitable shitstorm of opposition.

I'm impatient too, but the man walked into a house on fire (the economic mess), and it has only been five months.

As was most of the electorate.

It's only 4 years.  Then some other bozo gets a shot at screwing it all up (differently).

Other than sharing the frustration that Obama keeps trying so hard to come up with bipartisan support with a group of Republican assholes who have absolutely no intent of voting for anything he comes up with no matter what it is, the stances of the DOJ have been infuriating.  Part of me wonders whether that has to do with the fact that just about everybody that's been nomnated has a never-ending series of indefinite holds on their confirmation, and it's still pretty much the same DOJ, but still, he should really be pushing them harder instead of backing every play they make if that's the case.

For Taint and the other disillusioned, the Anointed One is on my teevee right now making a speech to the AMA about his health care plans.

Tune in for a contact high.

He is pushing for the "Public Option", I don't think any dilution/changes are going to come from him.  There are several Senators trying their damnedest to look like they support a public option while trying to water it down or change it so that it's hobbled at the behest of their AMA/Pharma overlords.  First it was the "trigger", where we don't have a public option unless the health care industry fails to meet certain milestones.  The latest thing was the idea that we should just have a bunch of co-ops instead of a public plan.

Single-payer is dead on the vine, despite the fact that it has substantial support from doctors and patients (just not the AMA).

No, what you predicted was some preposterous manchuran candidate obama laughs at us all while devil horns grow out of his skull bullshit.  And need I remind you, your guy is still trying to instigate war with Iran as a way to stay relevant.  Yeah, you were right all along...

Phreddy's manchurian horseshit is merely the flip side to that small segment of people who really do look at Obama as some kind of messianic figure.  The bulk of us are living in the shades of grey, but shades of grey aren't as interesting.  It's the raw madness of the black/white good/bad liberal/conservative dichotomy that makes it so popular amongst the press.  Everybody likes to watch the crazy people say crazy shit.  It's great for the ratings.

Hey, look, it's the money I could be saving with Geico!

It will only get better; as George pointed out, it's only been five months. I gave your W a full year before I started bitching about him, just on principle. Of course, looking back, I needn't have been so magnanimous.

I complained about the psychotic bastard starting before he won the primary.

My attitude on this has less to do with Obama, and more to do with the discomfort of fools who believe campaign promises and the hype around anointed saviors.

Bill Maher is the leftish version of Dennis Miller. Completely unfunny, and has the worst sense of timing of any working entertainer.

The only thing I ever looked for in Bush was for him to do what he said he would do.  Whether you liked it or not, you must admit, he stuck to his plan.  Even Maher said so.

Which plan is that?  The plan to be a compassionate conservative?  To spread democracy, by force if necessary, to every corner of the planet?  To get in and out of Iraq in a few short months?  To balance the budget?  To leave no child behind?  Don't be ridiculous.  His was one of the least accomplished administrations in history.

Here a short To-Do list to help Obama along towards getting something done:

Someone needs to put a halt to all the happy moi-shit in Minnesota and just let Al Franken take his seat for fucksake.  It's just out of hand.  I'll feel so much safer then.

Speaking on behalf of a small but growing number of liberal democrats, with all due respect of course, it is time to send that cunt Pelosi back where she came from.   She's bringing it all down.   It's just luck that the Republicans are still managing to make complete and utter fools of themselves.   Leadership by default (and cuz the other side looks worse) is simply not leadership.

David Letterman needs to remember Horsey's first rule and never 'splain the joke.  This INCLUDES never explaining to a television audience ABOUT the rule that you never 'splain the joke --expechly when you are in the midst of rationalizing out an apoilogy that never should have been made.  He should'a kept his mouth shut.  The last thing we need is more Palin sympathy in this country.

Someone close to him needs to crush up enough Oxycontin into Rush Limbaugh's cheeseburgers to render him a dribbling addict once again, and then pack him off for a couple of months to the Betty Ford clinic with no access to the media.

You know, I actually think Pelosi gets (a tiny bit) more crap than she should.  She's been able to push a lot of really good legislation through the House.  It's the giant blubbering vagina named Harry Reid that never seems to be able to keep any of his people in line.  The Senate is usually the one where they keep bending over and taking it in the name of bipartisanship.

Thank You Tojonovich.  I'd forgotten all about Harry, yet another cunt, albeit a very wimpy looking one.  He is like the anti-rumsfeld.  2% Milk Toast.  He need to slink his soft-spoken withered ass home to Vegas and get himself laid or something.  Let real men (or even real women!) take care of bidness for a spell.

It saddens me deeply to see how thoroughly in control we liberals at long last are, and yet as ineffectual and bickering-bitchy as ever.  I actually feel  sorry for Obama.  I think he's a genuinely good guy in the right place at the right time but for the congressional cantankerous cunts.   I am wondering if he might not get more accomplished if one of the two houses fell to the Republicans, thereby forcing some more lively discourse.
