I love how the sidebar picture to a related story on the City Council approving the $15 minimum wage shows all black women; as if there are no other demographic that also work for minimum wage in Los Angeles.
Inner city LA is a bigger cesspool than it was in 1968.

Most union contracts are tied to the minimum wage so that union pay is usually a multiple of the bottom wage and is why unions have historically argued for a higher minimum wage. This does seem odd what they are asking for here but I would agree with the point made in the article that if they can bring the wages in lower than the minimum wage AND create more union members by using that lower wage as a bargaining chip in collectivizing a workforce that only lines the pockets of the union bosses and is bad for workers in general.
