And it took you how many years to bother to look that up?

Pay Em no mind, Siggy. I didn't catch on myself until a couple weeks ago. Fnord even has his own iconic portrait, suitable for framing.

I also have an Urban Dictionary entry. Siggy, I'm actually surprised, because I was under the impression you could see the fnords.

Shit, that was the first thing I thought of when I saw his name. In fact I thought he was someone I knew until the Nigger Tourettes kicked in.

Every good handle has a good back story to it, hell my namesake was broken on a ladder for knocking up the kings daughter.
and don't even bother looking up Choad or Taint (ewwww).

Mine is forever tied to everyone's favorite shitdigger. My original Cruel handle appeared to be just a jumble of letters but actually had a meaning that in retrospect I am glad I changed and if possible would scrub totally from the annals of the intarwebz as it does have some professional attachment to it.
Horse took to calling me Scotty as this was a close approximation of the jumble of letters and it stuck.
My preferred nom de anon most everywhere else online I made up myself and I feel is quite clever even though it often takes years for people to realize it actually says something as well.

Cross topic: Was there ever any point in trying to have any sort of Net anonymity?

I believe you could have and still can get away with it. I just don't think it is a thought process that people engage in anymore because they have been conditioned that they have to have an online presence and "brand" they have to maintain. Which is a fucking dangerous thing.
There should be a law that anything that is said prior to your 21st birthday online cannot be accessed after your 21st birthday by anyone. I am pretty sure that Google can write an algorithm for that one. If they could come up with that I would not mind letting my sons go hog wild on the net. Until then I am going to raise them to hide behind anonymous handles the way I came up online and to only let very select info out there just to keep themselves less apt to be that kid not getting into school or getting a job because of a cursory Google search of their internet history.

I have a vague primal memory that "fnord" was a programming command. It might be as ancient as programmable calculators.
