Their grip is tightening in proportion to the gap between education and technology. If you're smart enough to push a button, your reward is at hand, and you won't mind the monitor, the tattoo, the implant in your brain. However, if you're smart enough to push lots of buttons in the right order then you are the monitor, ink the tattoo and design and control the implant.  The world is changing at an exponential rate, and the definition of "control" changes with it.

The human curve remains the same. Few of us learn more than three buttons (for reasons of stupidity and/or laziness), and the interests of the selfish continue to be served. The monitor is monitored, the tattoo ink contains markers, the implant hides a stick of dexax.
