It shows what a retarded country America is when a candidate’s features are an issue. Hillary isn’t a great beauty but this would matter only if she had tried making her living as an actress, model or porn star. What she does have is a very sharp mind; her opponents should be analyzing her statements and picking them apart the way they would if she were a man. Treating her as an ugly would be sex object is a risky strategy; it requires a critical mass of brain dead people to work. It can backfire, causing her to be more appealing to people who are repelled by this strategy.

I think you overestimate the intended effect of these kinds of things in terms of the election. Misstating Obama's name, commenting on Hillary's sex appeal or lack of it, and obsessing over John Edwards' hair are things that the opposition hammer away at in order to breed a general feeling of dislike. Nobody's going to be at the poll holding the lever and say, "I'm not voting for Hillary; she's ugly," but if the insinuations and insults are the first thing that comes to mind when she steps up to speak, it can have a subtle effect on your receptiveness to her ideas.

Sadly, I think you're right, Orangie, but I don't think that was Fnord's point. The fact that people do criticize Clinton for such matters as her lack of sex appeal as opposed to her political stances is pathetic. I'm actually supporting Edwards and have contributed some money to his campaign, but I'm under no illusions - I'll end up voting for whomever the Dems put on the ballot. '
She's smart as hell, has plenty of experience, and I haven't any doubt about her abilities to lead the country, certainly far more responsibly than our current Joke-in-Chief. The fact that people are jumping on her for her appearance or other shallow concerns says a lot about the process and the people upon whom this entire system depends.

I was kidding. People are not rational things, they only make rational choices by accident. As to Clinton, I think Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton is a scary enough sign for the prospects for the future of the cuntry to make me hope she loses. Otherwise, I'm with the Fad King, I don't vote. If the elder gods had wanted me to vote, they'd have sent their minions to extract my vote from me in blood. Any douche-bag wants to give me a lecture on my civic responsibilities and sacred franchise you can stop now and stick it up your ass, I am beyond caring anymore.
My life is a luxury, so filled with hate.

You assume Americans are smart enough to understand what really is in their best interests. Bush Jr. got in by appealing to conservative poor people’s hatred of gay people and women who want control of their fertility. His policies have done incredible damage to the working poor and lower middle classes which provided the majority of his support.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess you are referring to the fact that I’m not going to vote for Obama. The average african negro has an IQ of 70. The average “african american” has an IQ of 85 because of an estimated 20% European ancestry. With an african father and an American White mother, giving him at best 50% European ancestry, I doubt Obama's IQ is much over 100, which doesn’t cut it for running our country. We’ve already had seven years of government by a low IQ president; we can’t survive another stupid easily managed puppet.

Y'know, all this crapping on about democracy is really ironic coming from the greatest living example of a democracy that has failed.
Everything is a wedge. You're either with us or against us, the enemy of my enemy is my friend etc. No thinking, no discussion, just a wedge.
The reason you have the Dubya Bush et al circus having free reign to turn the US into a technically Fascist state is because of these endless wedges. "Keep the proles distracted and screaming incoherently at each other and they won't notice what we're actually getting away with".
And if you don't believe that, then just count up the amount of media bandwidth that was devoted to the Clinton / Lewinsky farce and the amount that has focussed on the corruption and incompetence regarding the Iraq fiasco.
I was in the US at the time of the Clinton trial, and I can speak on behalf of all Australians - Bill, you're a fucking legend.

Dirckman could care or less about the Iraq war.... He's not dodging bullets and quite honestly he doesn't give a fuck about those who are..... Dirckman has a full stomach, takes a couple of nice vacations every year, drinks nothing but fine scotch every single night, gets laid regularly, has a job that he doesn't even have to do any work at, and has enough money left over to buy some cool stuff... I can't understand how someone living in the U.S. in the year 2007 could really have anything to bitch about, seriously now, what the hell is with you libs being so pissed off all the time? So yesterday I went on a date with this gal who is an English professor at a college here in the Dakotas.... We sit down to a nice meal and had a spirited discusssion about the works of Oscar Wilde over chardonnay. Dirckman had a great time until the bitch started spouting off about the redistribution of wealth and peace and love and trying to pretend we're a bunch of pansy ass Europeans. Dirckman quickly lost the boner he was sporting and ripped this worthless cunt a new one... Here she was enjoying an $81.00 meal for two and she had the fucking gall to bitch about how terrible things were..... Anyhow, Dirckman is really fucking drunk now so he better quit his little bitch fest......

I couldn't agree more, Dirck.
We has it pretty sweet for a whining bunch of assholes.
All I said is that she's not appealing looking. I think she'd do a fine job at being president. No worse than the current administration.

Of course you can't. As long as you can keep selling the family silver to subsidise a ridiculous, unsustainable lifestyle, who cares ?
This meme of Merkins, standing proud and wrapped in the ol' glory, fiddling away like Nero, consuming like tomorrow doesn't exist, and denying the tiny little voice that is saying maybe, just maybe, there is a brick wall at the end of that tunnel your hurtling through at 100 miles an hour, is more cruelly amusing than anything I have ever read here.
